Louisa Imperiale, PhD is a veteran nonprofit c-suite executive with a demonstrated track record of leadership in fast-paced high-performance political, advocacy, academic, and venture-backed tech start-up environments.

Louisa excels in organizational strategy, leadership, strategic & digital communications, board management, strategic planning, fundraising & development, philanthropic advising, management & marketing, and brand strategy.

Louisa holds a BA in Nonprofit Management, an MBA with a concentration in Strategy, and a PhD in Media, Technology & Democracy. Her doctoral dissertation research centered on the deregulation of campaign finance since Watergate and its interplay with the political-media complex.*

After spending over a decade leading national political fundraising efforts and witnessing the corrosive influence of money in politics firsthand, then conducting her doctoral research on the same, Louisa committed the rest of her career to the renovation of American democracy. Most recently, she served as Chief Advancement Officer at Issue One, where she launched The Council for American Democracy. Prior to that, she served as Vice President for Development & Digital at Common Cause.

When she’s not advising nonprofit leaders in the pro-democracy space on aligning strategy and philanthropy, Louisa can be found enjoying DC’s cultural institutions with her tween-agers, working out at Equinox, researching hobbies she has yet to actually try, and writing about herself in the third person.
